An elderly man was killed in the three-alarm blaze in Trenton on Tuesday night.

After the fire was extinguished, the body of the dead man was found in fire debris, according to Casey DeBlasio, a spokeswoman with the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

The blaze broke out about 8:30 p.m. in a home that was cluttered with hoarded belongings on the 700 block of Southard Street, authorities said.

A 63-year-old man was found on the first floor of the structure. His name had not been released pending notification of family, officials said.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Arson Unit and the Trenton Police Department continue to investigate, DeBlasio said.

Anyone with information is urged to call 609-989-6406. Information also can be emailed to mchtftips@mercercounty.org.

As first responders arrived, flames were shooting through the roof of the two-and-one-half-story home, according to initial reports.
